In a recent interview with CNA, Mr. Mohd Rizal - Senior Regional Operations Director of RealtyLink Consultancy Pte Ltd, shared the challenging yet highly effective real-world journey of implementing solar panels.
1. The Consensus Challenge
Reaching agreement among residents was the toughest part. Concerns—especially from those worried about losing sunlight—meant the decision required extensive clarification and transparency. Eventually, approval was secured with strong majority support.
2. Leasing Model Instead of Buying
Rather than using large upfront funds, the project adopted a leasing arrangement with a fixed monthly fee. This reduced financial strain while still enabling access to clean energy.
3. Tangible Results
The solar system delivered significant benefits for a 400-unit condo :
Reduced grid electricity consumption by around 180,000 kWh
Gross savings of about S$113,000
Net savings of roughly S$68,800 after lease costs
4. Balancing Vision and Expectations
The success wasn’t only financial—it came from aligning technical feasibility with resident expectations. This balance ensured long-term sustainability and acceptance.
5. Expansion Plans
Encouraged by the positive outcomes, RLC is now exploring the feasibility of adopting solar solutions across several other estates under its management.
